The Chrysalis Award for Remodeling Excellence is a national remodeling industry award. Winners are judged on design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure. The awards cover 30 categories of residential and commercial remodeling, and winners are selected for each of four geographical regions of the country. We are pleased to announce – Red House won the Chrysalis Award in 2022 in the Northeast Region for our East-Side whole-home remodel.
We transformed a 19th-century home with a dark, labyrinthine layout, musty rooms, and dated style into an airy, open-concept space with contemporary finishes that harmonized with restored historic details. When purchasing the home, our clients knew it had great bones, but like many homes built at that time, the cramped floor plan had a meager and isolated kitchen, tight hallways, low ceilings, and no first-floor bath. Additionally, much of the interior of the home had been modified in the 1970s with poor trim choices and painted floors and needed a major style refresh. Moreover, the ground-level basement, which had previously served as a therapist’s office had developed a severe mold issue that needed remediation. Our team set out to design a light, bright, and open whole-home remodel that improved the function and aesthetic of the property to meet the needs of a busy modern family.
