A letter from our founder

The art of remodeling first captured my attention at the age of 14. My mother—an industrious single mom—inherited her parents’ small house and renovated it to rent it out. The house held deep sentimental value, and I watched as poor craftsmanship, unexpected design decisions, and a dragging timeline turned what should have been an exciting project into a source of worry.
That experience has stayed with me. Over the years, I was fortunate to learn the trade in a variety of environments—from frame-to-finish remodeling and cabinetmaking in Portland to luxury apartment build-outs in Manhattan and custom home building in Santa Fe—before settling in Rhode Island. Those experiences sharpened my beliefs about exceptional remodeling: it’s not just construction. It’s active listening combined with three arts: sophisticated design, heirloom-quality craft, and disciplined project management.

Just as my son was born, I founded Red House in 2006, driven by a simple goal: to build a reputation for excellence while enhancing the lives of those involved. That same idea is at the heart of our Core Values today: Care, Clarity, and Trust. Care enough to understand what matters. Bring clarity to a complex process. Earn trust through connection, honesty, expertise, and follow-through.
Those principles shape the Red House Process—our sequential design-build approach created to reduce surprises and give our clients a clearer, more thoughtful path from the first conversation through construction. We’ve refined the RHP year after year—because we believe great companies stay humble, measure what matters, and work hard to keep improving.
With your home in mind,
Justin Zeller
