Heritage House

As their family grew, our clients knew they needed a more functional kitchen. But, like many clients, as they began exploring their options, the wishlist also grew. The result is a historic Boston home that reflects this family’s routines.

Mudroom addition

The biggest transformation of this project is the addition of the mudroom. The new space seamlessly matches the existing home while still having its own unique elements that make it stand out. It's the perfect space to welcome you home.

From the mudroom, the expansive kitchen welcomes you in with an entirely reimagined layout designed for both beauty and function. Once tight and inefficient, the space has been transformed into a highly functional hub with generous storage, abundant prep space, and effortless flow. Custom cabinetry makes a striking statement through a sophisticated play on tonal contrast—light perimeter cabinetry paired with darker countertops, balanced by a richly toned island topped with lighter surfaces. Anchoring the space, the countertops nearly steal the show, particularly the dramatic 3-inch-thick honed marble island that brings a sense of permanence and understated luxury.

Bonus Spaces

As the project evolved, so did the vision for the home. What began with the kitchen expanded to include thoughtful updates that would better unify the entire first floor, including custom millwork and fresh paint. At the front of the home, two character-rich spaces—a children’s playroom and a sitting area—offered incredible architectural bones that simply needed a thoughtful refresh. Once defined by a darker aesthetic, both rooms were transformed into bright, updated spaces that feel fresh and inviting while still honoring the home’s historic character and original design details.
