It’s no secret: at Red House Design Build, we love working on old homes, and we love advocating for historic preservation in Rhode Island and New England. With a deep appreciation for the beauty and character of historic homes, particularly in our home city of Providence, Red House is proud to be a Partner in Preservation with the Providence Preservation Society. And boy, do they know how to celebrate!
For those unfamiliar, the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) is a local non-profit organization driven to “support and advocate for historic preservation, thoughtful design, and people-centered planning in Providence.” With a vision to celebrate and preserve the history of our fair city while building a vibrant and sustainable future, we’re thrilled to support the PPS, an organization with values that closely align with those at Red House Design Build.
As a way to highlight the architectural and urban fabric unique to Providence, the PPS has held an annual celebration to highlight the unique (and sometimes weird) architectural heritage that makes up the urban fabric of Providence. The so-called “Winter Bash” never disappoints and, since 2003, has earned a reputation for being one of the best (and fun) fundraising events in the Ocean State. Each year, the PPS announces a new theme for the event, with advocates of historic preservation in Rhode Island descending upon a historic location decked out in costumes and fancy outfits. This year, the event was held at the Foxon Company building in Smith Hill, and, celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Winter Bash made a splash with its “under the sea” themed party. (Last year, the Bash was a “Through the Looking Glass” theme and held at Providence’s iconic Industrial Trust Tower, better known as the “Superman Building”).
Donning our best under-the-sea attire, the Red House expert designers and builders put down their architectural scales and power tools and instead opted for Bobby Darin-esque tuxes, scuba gear, and deep blue rhinestones. With music, dancing, and delicious food abound the night was one that will not soon be forgotten–truly a special time that brought together members of the community to celebrate historic preservation in Rhode Island.
Here in the Ocean State, where old houses and neighborhoods weave the fabric of our state’s special character, Red House Design Build stands at the ready to preserve and revitalize these treasures. For those looking to set sail on a voyage of historic home renovation or historic preservation in Rhode Island, look no further than Red House Design Build.
